The Society of Collective Transports of Porto (STCP) has signed purchasing contracts to acquire 188 eco-friendly buses. 15 of these are electric and had the collaboration of INEGI in its development, representing an investment of EUR 6.5 millions.
The other 173 vehicles are powered by natural gas and are part of the new fleet which represents a total investment of EUR 92 millions.
These new electric buses are the result of a project carried out by CaetanoBus, in collaboration with INEGI, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and Efacec, with the aim of developing an urban bus with 100% electric motorization, as well as a universal battery charging system for heavy vehicles based on CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) technology.
INEGI was in charge of supporting the development and the structural validation of the new bus chassis and bodywork. This work involved design, analysis and structural simulation, considering the static analysis of dynamic vehicle simulation, topological optimization and modularity analysis and fatigue.
