This research Unit is recognised and co-funded by FCT (Portuguese Research Council) and gathers different competences in the fields of renewable energies. Its activity started in January 2015, but relies on the experience gathered by its members working in the field for more than 25 years.
CIENER develops, demonstrates and disseminates innovative renewable energy technologies, and also performs consultancy services. INEGI is the main host institution of CIENER, also involving other engineering schools in Portugal (UTAD, IPB and IPP).
CIENER is composed of 4 groups, according to different renewable energy fields:
- solar energy (thermal and PV systems);
- bioenergy (biomass combustion and gasification);
- wind energy;
- bioclimatic and energy efficient buildings.
